Plovdiv International Airport is located 12 km. South-East from the city of Plovdiv, which is the second biggest city in Bulgaria. The city is situated in the very heart of the country, which makes it a suitable starting point for travelling in Bulgaria.

Serving a catchment area of more than 4,5 million people /incl. capital Sofia/ in a driving distance of 1,5 h, we believe that there are good per spectives for fast traffic growth of both passengers and cargo flights at Plovdiv Airport.

In the close proximity of the airport there are plenty of unique historical landmarks, winter and spa-resorts. The city itself with its ancient history could be very attractive destination. Plovdiv was recently announced as the oldest city in Europe, with history dating back more than 6.000 years ago. The Old Town (UNESCO world heritage), the Seven Hills, the International Fair of Bulgaria, based here, the friendly and inexpensive hotels, restaurants and night-bars could attract many tourists and businessmen.

Plovdiv Airport is operational 24/7 and it is staffed with experienced personnel, performing passengers, cargo and business flights services for numerous airlines.

In 2009 the government has made an investment worth over 20 million Euro for the entire infrastructural development of the airport. A new state-of-the-art passenger terminal has been built and put into operation since 1st of August 2009. The terminal occupies 6,750m², accommodating large public and passengers hallsl, fast food premises, shops and offices. The terminal is designed to serve up to 1.000 passengers at peak hour and 500.000 passengers per annum. It has been awarded a C-class status by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) for its level of service.

Runway length is 2500 m., width is 45 m. The apron has been extended in 2009 and it can now accommodate up to 13 mid-size aircraft at the same time. The airport authority has recently purchased brand new ground support equipment on eight different positions in order to increase the quality of the handling services provided.

As a follow up of all these investments the Bulgarian government has recently approved a reduction of the airport charges at Plovdiv Airport by 50% with the main purpose to stimulate fast traffic growth. The new charges are considered effective as of 01/MAY/2010 and apply for Plovdiv only among all Bulgarian airports. The landing fees are twice as low as these at Sofia, Varna and Bourgas and the passenger charge is even three times less than in Sofia. The reduced charges and the brand new infrastructure both turn Plovdiv into the most competitive airport in Bulgaria.

The current traffic at Plovdiv Airport is pretty low. 105.000 passengers have gone through the airport for the peak year of operations - 2007. Potential is for 500.000 passengers per anum. This gives our potential partners the chance to negotiate preferable ground handling slots and receive fast and competitive service.

During the winter season /from December to April/ Plovdiv Airport operates a ski-charter passengers program. Tourists for the main ski-resorts Pamporovo, Bansko and Borovetz are served in this period. Being totally committed to airlines and passengers satisfaction we have already provided services to numerous leading UK, German, Russian, Dutch and of course Bulgarian carriers. Since 2005 summer charter programs have also commenced, operated by two Israelii charter airlines to Tel Aviv and by the local Bulgarian Air Charter to Copenhagen.

Being the first alternative airport of Sofia Airport, Plovdiv is serving its traffic, when the weather conditions at Sofia are unfavourable. In such cases all Bulgarian airlines and also some of the foreign carriers, such as Air France, British Airways, Austrian Airlines, Malev, El Al, CSA, LOT, Aeroflot, NIKI, Wizz Air etc. divert their flights to Plovdiv.

In the summer of 2010 Plovdiv Airport has successfully finalized an agreement with the largest low-cost carrier in Europe - Ryanair. Year-round services to London-Stansted commenced on 02/NOV/2010. Milan-Bergamo is the airline's second destination which is operational since 07/MAY/11. The third Ryanair route to Plovdiv is also already announced. A railway station is located 3 km. away from the new terminal. They could both be easily connected through a shuttle bus. This will create the opportunity for a convenient railway connection with the city where you could transfer to any place within the country. There is a very fast connection to the Plovdiv – Sofia motor highway. Тhe distance to Sofia is approx.140 km and the trip takes about 2 hours by bus. You can reach Plovdiv Airport by car too or by taxi /approx. 6,-E OW from downtown Plovdiv/.

The strategic geographical location of Bulgaria gives us the opportunity to develop our airport even as a hub and transfer centre for destinations throughout Europe, the Middle East and the Balkans.
